October 18 , 2007 6:30 p.m.

David French is the speaker for the October Dinner Meeting. French will discuss "The Battle that Saved Washington During the Civil War."

November 15, 2007 6:30 p.m.

The Aurora High School Show Choir will entertain members at our November Dinner Meeting.

February 21, 2007 6:30 p.m.

Aurora Historical Member Pat Lawlor will speak on St. Petersburg Russia at the February Dinner Meeting.

Fall Events at The Aurora Historical Society:

The following events are a cooperative effort with the Aurora Memorial Library. The events are held in the Gallery.

Monday, October 22, 2007--6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Family Halloween Party--featuring chalk rubbings on tomb stones, stories, and refreshments. All are welcome and encouraged to wear costumes! Parents are welcome to tour the museum with their children and share their memories of earlier times in Aurora.

Tuesday, November 13, 2007--4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Veterans' Program--featuring a speaker and refreshments. All attendants are welcome to tour the museum and enjoy the projects displayed by Leighton Elementary School Fifth Graders on Native Americans.

Saturday, November 17, 2007--1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Preschoolers' Fairy Tale Ball--featuring games, stories, and refreshments. The museum will be open for touring. The Community Collector's exhibit will be Lillian Pap's Nut Cracker Collection.

Wednesday, November 29, 2007--10:30 - Noon Pictures with Santa! Santa will be sitting in his chair in the entrance of the Aurora Historical Society and children can have their pictures taken by librarians. The museum will be open during the event!

Key Ingredients--The History of American Food Traditions is Coming to Aurora!!!

February 2008 The Aurora Historical Society will host the Smithsonian Institution's Museum on Main Street Exhibit. We are one of eight host sites in Ohio! The historical society plans to offer several programs and will be open for extended hours during this exhibition. For more information on the exhibition visit www.keyingredients.org

Program Schedule:

The AHS members met on Tuesday, September 25 to discuss possible programs. Thus far, two programs are planned and several more are being worked on. Updates will be made as available.

Saturday, February 23, 2008--1:00p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Ohio author Gail Bellamy, Cleveland Food Memories, will speak about the history of food in Northeastern Ohio. Her book will be available for purchase and signing. Gail will speak in the Gallery and then the Key Ingredients exhibition highlighting American food history and traditions will be open to the public. Refreshments are provided. This event and all of the refreshments for programing for Key Ingredients are generously orovided by The Friends of the Aurora Memorial Library.

Wednesday, February 27, 2008--7:00p.m. The Chagrin Falls Know Your Antiques Club will visit the Aurora Historical Society and tour Key Ingredients and view an exhibit on antique cookware, kitchen utensils, and other related artifacts. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Aurora Memorial Library via their sponsorship of Key Ingredients programming. This is a private tour but similar ones may be planned for your organization, just call the museum--there is no fee! You can even hold your monthly meeting here and tour the exhibition!
